Leonardo da Vinci was born on April 15, 1462 in the Tuscan hill town of Vinci, which is located at the tower valley of the Arno River in the territory of Florence, Italy. He was the illegitimate son of a notary, Piero da Vinci, and a peasant woman, Caterina. Leonardo had many subjects of interests, such as nature, flying machines, geometry, mechanics, architecture, and anatomy. When he studied anatomy, he dissected corpses of criminals and observed the movements of the eye and the circulation of blood. Other works Leonardo da Vinci is famous for are the Mona Lisa, the Last Supper, and the Virgin of the Rocks. He has worked for many patrons such as the Duke Ludovico Sforza, Cesare Borgia, Giuliano de’Medici, and King Fracois I. On May 2, 1519, he died in Cloux, France.
