Sistine Chapel
Michelangelo was an amazing Florence sculptor and painter. He lived in the years 1475 to 1564 and was a leading figure in the Italian Renaissance. He was exposed to the arts at a young age but his father did not approve of him becoming an artist. When he was 13, he became an apprentice under the painter Domenico Ghirlandaio. After a year, he went study at the Medici’s mansion to hones his skills. At the age of 16, he had already created two sculptures. He studied many corpses to learn the human anatomy. He eventually went on to create dozens of beautiful and intricate statues and paintings. His work caught the eye of Pope Julius II and he was asked to paint the ceiling of the Sistine Chapel. This chapel and his statue of David were his most famous works.
